As the most senior physician leader in Critical Care Medicine in the Calgary Zone and the academic department, this is a key leadership position within Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM).The Department of Critical Care Medicine is a major department within the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. The Department fully contributes to the research, educational and service missions of the Cumming School of Medicine. Their vision statement is “Exceptional patient and family centred critical care”. It has a fully accredited residency-training program, a graduate research program, and a record of accomplishment in research. Inspired by the university's Gaelic motto, which translates, as 'I will lift up my eyes,' the University of Calgary launched an ambitious “Eyes High” vision to become a leading Canadian research-intensive University. The Zone Clinical Department Head (ZCDH), Critical Care Medicine will work collaboratively in a dyad leadership model with the Executive Director for AHS administration to lead and participate in the development of system wide clinical services. The department services a large and diverse population that incorporates the rapidly growing urban Centre of Calgary, as well as surrounding communities and southern Alberta. The ZCDH will maintain and recruit an appropriately trained physician workforce, ensure high standards of clinical care and ethical conduct of the medical staff, foster maintenance of competence and promote a learning environment for physicians, students, staff and researchers within the Zone. Furthermore, the ZCDH will participate in strategic planning for Critical Care Medicine in both the clinical and academic context in conjunction with Alberta Health Services. In the CSM the Academic Head will champion teaching, education and research in Critical Care. The Department of Critical Care Medicine has approximately40 physicians and researchersand is affiliated with the Critical Care Strategic Clinical Network. Qualifications include an MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in Critical Care Medicine.
