We have an immediate need for a Product Engineering Manager to work with our engineering and manufacturing team at our Seating Division in Kitchener, reporting to our Director of Operations. PURPOSE: · Responsible to develop new products and enhance existing products, addressing competitive product and market requirements, and manage the product development process and product introduction process. Drives methods, equipment, processes and material usage to improve manufacturing, product integrity, and cost reduction, on an ongoing basis. Manages all activities of the Product Engineering department at the Seating plant. RESPONSIBILITIES: · Works with the Director of Operations - Seating to coordinate the allocation, planning and scheduling of Engineering team resources to product development work and all other department functions and projects. · Works closely with Production as well as Purchasing/Sourcing on making improvements to all products and the way they are manufactured and sourced; addressing production and purchased components problems and opportunities; manages Engineering support to production floor and other areas. · Researches improvements in use of materials and processes for production or sub-contracting of new and existing product and uncovers new sources of supply for new or alternative materials or processes. · Determines our capability of producing special products and resolving design-related issues. · Pursues and maintains regulatory standards with national and local code authorities, i.,e., Underwriter Laboratories, C.S.A. · Responsible for setting overall department procedures and standards. · Overall responsibility for manufactured product: structural integrity, efficient processes, hardware specification, parts, packing, installation instructions. · Provides costs estimates for new products · Responsible for products to be included on Cap/Giza and Catalogue Express. · Overall responsibility for Biesse programming. · Oversee tooling – type and design. · Make recommendations and do investigative analysis of new equipment, processes, layout improvements, and products. · Technical support to customers and customer service. · Drives continuous improvement in the engineering/product portion of the business, as well as cost reductions initiatives. · Identifies and initiates SRED opportunities. · Performs all responsibilities/services in accordance with company Quality Assurance and Engineering ISO procedures and processes 9001:2015. REQUIREMENTS: · Post-secondary degree in Engineering with minimum of 5 years Engineering and Manufacturing experience. preferably in a seating related field. · Project management skills with ability to work on tight timelines; PMP Courses an asset. · Proven track record related to Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing. · Formal training in Six Sigma, Layout and Lean Manufacturing as well as demonstrated experience. · Experience implementing 5S program. · Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. · Proficiency with AutoCad and/or Solidworks software, as well as MS Project and Microsoft Office · Strong attention to detail, analytical problem solving and effective decision making skills. · Experience with incentive systems and work centre rate settings.
