POSITION PURPOSE:

NetNation is seeking an experienced manager to lead a team of developers and DevOps personnel in our quest to be the leader in web services and solutions for small businesses. As a growing business, the ability to scale our platform, our team, and our skillset are all critical to our success, and the Software Development Manager will play a key role in tackling these challenges. The right candidate will have a passion for solutions architecture and mentoring developers as they advance their skillsets and experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a staffing forecast to effectively scale our capabilities based on projected workload and resource / skill set requirements
  • Lead the effort to grow our development team by attracting talented Developers, Devops, QA Automation engineers, etc.)
  • Coach, mentor and motivate staff members by developing their skills, setting goals, and providing continuous feedback
  • Ensure delivered solutions adhere to coding standards, have been properly tested, and have a solid deployment plan
  • Assist lead developers and DevOps in Architectural decisions for current and new software
  • Assist in Defining and Redefining of Development lifecycle when appropriate
  • Active participation and execution of weekly sprint related meetings such as daily standups, sprint planning, review and story writing workshops as part of the standard agile scrum process
  • Quarterly review of team improvements based on sprint retrospective notes
  • Manage daily tasks of direct reports to ensure all scheduled tasks and work is completed in a timely manner.
  • Perform employee reviews and scheduling for all direct reports.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to all direct reports
  • Oversee and manage any development or DevOps related outages requiring bug fixes or urgent feature requests
  • Ensure proper documentation of employee progress and performance issues, and facilitate corrective action when necessary
  • Maintain 100% knowledge and compliance of standard operating procedures and company practices
  • Maintain working knowledge of all commercial and proprietary tools used by development team
  • Take part in strategic and operational improvement projects
  • Stay up-to-date on industry technologies and best practices
  • Other duties as identified or assigned.

  • Successful development of multiple pipelines of delivery
  • New and updated documentation for processes and software
  • Continual improvements of teams velocity and software quality
  • Reduction in meant time to resolution for bugs and fixes
  • Help deliver a clear understanding of capacity and what can be delivered for the business for a number of projects based on estimations for a 2 week agile sprint cycle (up to 3 months in advance at times).
  • Continued improvement of our automations for software and infrastructure

Requirements

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have 2+ years of prior experience leading a team of developers and/or Devops in an agile environment
  • Strong planning and project management skills.
  • Must have technical troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Strong hands on knowledge of C, C++ or Java, and experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux based operating systems.
  • A strong understanding of security and best practices for secure online development
  • Experience working in a driven, fast paced, and dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions and recommendations and drive actions
  • Ability to learn and communicate technical information to non-technical people.
  • Must have excellent written & oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven education in the area of software development
