Universal Realty Group is a Halifax-based property management company known for setting the standards of excellence in residential accommodation and commercial leasing. We are currently seeking a qualified Human Resource Business Partner for our corporate office in Halifax, NS.

The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for areas of recruiting, employee relations, benefits, events, Workers Compensation in addition to short and long-term planning of all HR related functions such as workforce planning, recruitment, staffing strategies, wage and salary administration, associate and labour relations, benefits, specialized training and development.

HR Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management of HR operations.
  • Manage payroll information by collecting, calculating, and populating input data to be transferred to payroll outsourcing provider.
  • Responsible for the complete recruiting process including meeting with the manager to discuss the mandate, creating/reviewing the job posting, initial phone screening of candidate, setting up interview(s), conducting the first round of “virtual” in-person interviews, where applicable, completing the reference checks and background check, and extending the offer to the candidate.
  • Administration and communication of HR policies and procedures including the development of policy documents and material for employee reference.
  • Administration and communication of HR programs including performance reviews and assessments, benefits, and compensation.
  • First point of contact for employee relations and employee questions.
  • Conduct employee onboarding, integration, and new hire orientation.
  • Serve as change management leadKey driver in the ongoing evaluation of HR processes; recommending innovative approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency.


  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working as HR Generalist or Business Partner.
  • CPHR designation will be an asset
  • Previous experience in employee relations, benefits, wages and salaries, training, accident prevention, government regulations and policies.
  • An analytic approach to reporting plus written communication skills required with an understanding and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
