Job Description

Wood Mackenzie is seeking an Equity Research Analyst to join our Equity analytics team in Calgary, Canada. Our team collects and collates Wood Mackenzie’s vast proprietary and public datasets to build an advantaged view of production and midstream performance for oil and gas companies in Lower 48 and Canada. You will also collaborate closely with some of the industry’s leading subject matter experts to deliver the insights that move markets.

About The Role

The Equity analytics team is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and complete delivery of production forecast for 50+ E&P and midstream companies in North America with associated datasets and commentary, and delivering insightful market analysis to clients. Our team runs weekly models to estimate producer production and midstream throughput, in addition to running analysis on well economics and hedging. Responsibilities include:

  • Run weekly production by producer report for Bakken, PRB, and Canada, with commentary for client delivery
  • Provide general support for customers in their process via multiple communication channels
  • Analyze underlying operators and continuously improve accuracy of the production models, as compared to reported numbers
  • Collect operation and financial data for the underlying producers and midstream companies
  • Manipulate large datasets to identify areas of improvement in data accuracy
  • Contribute to the quarterly economics report and hedging report by running breakeven models and writing commentaries
  • Collaborate with Wood Mackenzie’s team of data scientists and developers and continuously improve current techniques and processes
  • Maintain a view of the market narrative for Bakken, Rockies and Canadian producers & midstream companies and share findings with wider Commodity team.
  • Research information relating to the E&P and Midstream industries and maintain a fundamental understanding of the industry and available datasets.

In addition, any experience with the subject matter and skillsets used by the team would be a plus but is not necessary. The subject matter focuses on oil and gas production and movement in US and Canada and associated datasets. The tools most used by the team include Excel, VBA, SQL, Python, Power point, Publisher and relational databases. However, we welcome any technical or industry knowledge and are always looking to embrace new technologies, programing languages, and skillsets.
