BDC Capital is the investment arm of BDC - Canada’s only bank devoted exclusively to entrepreneurs. With over five billion dollars under management, serving as a strategic partner to Canada's most innovative firms, we offer the full spectrum of risk capital, from seed investments to growth capital.

The Associate’s mandate will be to support the Director, Insights and Strategic Initiatives, in the development & implementation of various BDC Capital strategic imperatives. Furthermore, the Strategy team will also be tasked to drive externally-facing strategic projects defined by the EVP, BDC Capital.


  • Perform market analysis, run analytical forecast models and solicit opinions from internal and external stakeholders to propose new projects, analyses or initiatives to the Director in order to support BDC Capital in achieving its mission.

  • Conduct data-mining initiatives both within BDC Capital’s portfolio and in external industry data sets. Produce observations and trends within the data that will be used to assist BDC Capital in its strategic development, as well as to promote thought leadership.

  • Create the underlying content for the thought leadership effort on behalf of BDC Capital through research, and the dissemination of that research through the publication of articles, social media posts, as well as conferences and industry events.

  • Provide support to investment teams & senior management on select high-impact strategic initiatives (e.g., investment in underserved sectors).

  • Work closely with high-priority initiatives tasked by senior management or the Shareholder on a time sensitive, ad-hoc basis.

  • Develop and maintain effective communication channels inside the broader BDC organization to ensure the timely dissemination of information, implementation, and performance management.

  • Provide the team with synthesis reports of meetings with external stakeholders on overall issues facing the Venture Capital and Private Equity industry in order to transform those insights into internal strategic thinking.


If you can answer YES to the following statements, you could be the person we are looking for:

  • You have at least 3 years of experience in a leading management consulting firm, venture capital firm or in an investment bank

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

  • You have experience working on strategic projects with an operational component, as well as a good understanding of statistics and scientific data tools and techniques

  • You are bilingual (French and English) and have strong communication skills, particularly in presenting results and information to an executive-level audience

  • You have strong financial modeling and data analysis skills

  • You are known in your business environment for excellent relationships, combined with an ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders

  • You are curious, motivated and able to work independently

  • You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, where objectives must be met within tight deadlines
