Forward Robotics is a Cambridge, ON, Canada based startup developing fixed-wing VTOL crop spraying drones with 7m (23ft) wingspan. We're a small, highly technical team looking for candidates who are interested in automation, new technology, and making sleek and shiny aircraft.

Job Responsibilities

The main responsibility is to work with the engineers and other techs to manufacture and assemble the drone carbon fiber composite airframe components:

  • New composite tooling CAD/CAM design and manufacturing
  • Measuring out and cutting fabrics for layups based on existing drawings
  • Vacuum bag layup of airframe shells using existing molds
  • Layup of sandwich panels for internal structures and other parts
  • Layup of fairings and other small components
  • Operating a CNC router to cut out composite sandwich panels
  • Assembly of composite components according to CAD designs
  • Suggesting improvements to the existing airframe design, manufacturing and assembly processes, and tools/tooling
  • Improving documentation of composite layup and assembly procedures

You will also have the opportunity to assist with other work in the company, depending on your preferences, including:

  • Avionics electrical integration
  • Aircraft ground testing
  • Flight testing

  • Composite part manufacturing, wet layup and vacuum bagging
  • Composite tooling/mold design and manufacturing
  • Hand tools and power tools (drill, rotary tool, orbital sander, buffer)
  • Drill press, band saw, and lathe
  • CNC router setup and operation
  • 3D CAD and CAM
  • Fusion360 and Mach3
  • Machining composites/plastics/MDF/aluminum
  • Spray painting
  • Ability to manually lift up to 20 kg
  • Frequently reaching and bending
  • Standing for up to 2 hours at a time
  • Use of eye and hearing protection, gloves, coveralls, and respirator
  • Have great attention to detail
  • Have a college-level degree/diploma/certificate in a related field and 1+ year(s) of experience, or the equivalent experience level

Location and Work Schedule

The company is located in Cambridge, ON. If you require moving, we can assist with looking for local accommodations.

Working hours are flexible, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
